Individual Roundtrip in Myanmar
“11 days Highlights tour”

After your arrival in Yangon you will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day free.

You will spend the second day of your trip sightseeing in Yangon. Sights include the Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar’s most important pagoda, the Sule Pagoda, the Old Town and its colonial buildings, the Bogyoke Market, the Reclining Buddha and China Town. Your guide will be happy to consider and incorporate any of your special interests.

An early start to the airport, followed by a one hour flight to Bagan. On this day you will visit the imposing temples of Bagan and the more than 1500 pagodas dating from the 9th to 12th centuries. This town counts as one of the greatest and most impressive sights in Myanmar, if not in all of Southeast Asia. This sightseeing tour can be done by car, bicycle or horse cart. Especially at dawn and dusk a beautiful interplay of colours can be seen on the bricks of the pagodas. Your guide will help you choose the most interesting buildings.

In the morning you will be taken down the river from Bagan to Sale in a small private boat. Enjoy the spectacular scenic ride and visit one of the oldest wooden monasteries.
In the afternoon you will return to Bagan with free time to spend as you wish. You can use it to see the cave monasteries in Nyaung U or to visit a lacquerware factory. In addition to the day’s programme you can also have us arrange a balloon ride – an unforgettable experience at dawn. You will be back at your hotel at around 10 am and can then commence your day’s programme a little later. We would be happy to book your balloon ride for you (cost is around 250US$ per person).

Your fifth day will begin with transfer to the airport. The flight from Bagan to Mandalay only takes around 30 minutes. When you arrive you will visit Sagaing, the 14th century Shan capital, where hundreds of pagodas and many monasteries make for an impressive experience.
After a short car journey you will reach Ava, the royal town founded in 1346. Then, crossing the river by ferry, a horse cart will take you to the many sights, including a teak monastery with beautiful carvings and the stone Maha-Aungmye Bonzan Monastery. On the way back to Mandalay you will visit the old royal town Amarapura and its U Bein Bridge, the longest teak bridge in the world. If time permits and if you are interested in additional activities, such as lunch for a thousand monks or a boat trip under the U Bein Bridge, let your guide know and they can be incorporated into the programme.

In the morning you will have the opportunity to see Mandalay’s sights: the famous Mahamuni Buddha, the King’s Palace, the pagoda with the largest book in the world (on stone tablets) and the Shwe Kyang Monastery on Mandalay Hill. In the afternoon you will be taken to Mingun by boat, where you will view the ruins of the largest unfinished pagoda in Myanmar and the biggest bell in the world. From there you have a breath-taking view over the Ayeyarwady river. The return to Mandalay is in the late afternoon.

After breakfast, you transfer to Mandalay airport and take 30 minute flight to Heho. One hour car journey to Nyaung Shwe. The trip continues by boat to your hotel on the lake. After check-in, you will go on a long private boat trip, where you will float past the villages on stilts of the Inn Tha tribe, past monasteries, pagodas and floating gardens. You can visit silk weaving and other local handicraft workshops along the way.

After breakfast, the day will begin with a boat trip to the Pa-O markets further down on the southern bank of the lake. On the way back, following a river through rice paddies, the trip will continue towards Indain. Here you can discover an exceptional number of stupas overgrown by jungle plants and encounter various antiques traders. Then the boat will take you to the Phaung Daw U Paya Pagoda and to the monastery on stilts – Mga Phe Chauk. You will return to Nyaung Shwe by boat, where your car will be awaiting you. After a 1 ½ hour drive you will arrive in Kalaw, a town lying 1350m above sea level, which was formerly a popular British hill station and where temperatures are around 10C lower than at the lake. Please bring warm clothing in the winter months, December and January, since at night there can even be a frost.

This day will be dedicated to hiking in the hills: You will visit the Bamboo-Buddha in the Nee Paya Pagoda and will then carry on to a Palaung Tribe settlement. Lunch will be taken in a Nepalese farmhouse, the “View Point”. The hike will continue along a lake through the surrounding nature reserve back to Kalaw. If you like, other interesting hiking tours can of course be suggested by your guide. Back in Kalaw you can visit the cave with the golden Buddhas and the colourful local markets.
However, you can also have a restful day in the spa of the Amara Resort or play a relaxing round of golf in the rural 9-hole golf course.

In the morning you will be taken to the caves in Pindaya by car. In the vast limestone caves there are thousands of diverse Buddha statuettes, collected over several centuries. Afterwards, you can opt to visit a traditional handicraft workshop producing umbrellas. In the afternoon, your transfer to Heho airport is followed by your flight to Yangon. You will be picked up in Yangon; the day will end with your transfer to the hotel.

Your travel programme ends on this morning, when you will be transferred to Yangon International Airport.
